The game I invented to show my daughter RPG basics has been published in a peer-reviewed and play-tested anthology of educational role playing games. This open-access game, called Dragons & Detention, starts on page 58 of the book at the following link: Roll for Learning. Thanks to the many kids who helped play test the game at my summer camps and after school programs. Thanks also to GameOn! volunteers, Katie, Jordan Thomas, and Rick May, who helped develop, refine, and test the game. Extra goodies for the game will be hosted here on the GameOn! website: Dragons and Detention.
And a special thanks to my wife, Kristine, and daughter, Lilyanna, who painted the minis that I kitbashed from Super Dungeon to use for the prototype. Pictures here.

GameOn! is pleased to announce the availability of a Friday afternoon after school D&D club. The club is sponsored by Lower Merion's Recreation Department. Registration information is here. The club will meet most Friday afternoons during Fall 2023 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm and starts September 8th.
GameOn! just completed its first session of summer camp. The adventures were awesome and epic!
Kids and parents both expressed interest in more programs featuring D&D. To that end, GameOn! is hoping to organize an after school program for the 2023-2024 year. Rather than work with the individual schools and their requirements, GameOn! has physical space at its Bala Cynwyd headquarters to host such a club. An email has already gone out to past summer camp participants (and we will also email others who attend our summer camps) but we wanted to also make this program available to all those in the GameOn! community. To express interest and gather information to put together such an after school program, we've put together a Google Form. Click here to access it. Once we reach critical mass (at least 4-5 kids), we'll reach back out and schedule our first club meeting in early September. Please note: this club would be in person. Today, GameOn! learned that it was the May recipient of the Awesome Foundation's $1000 grant. The grant will be used to purchase equipment to increase hearing accessibility in all of GameOn!'s role playing games. Here's the application GameOn! filed.
GameOn! is so excited to receive its first grant. FNC, our parent 501(c)(3), as part of its administration of GameOn! and as its fiscal sponsor, will receive 10% of the award. Therefore, to ensure that the total of $1000 goes to the purchase of the equipment budgeted in the grant, GameOn! is kindly asking for $100 in donations so that the entire $1000 can be used. Thus far, GameOn! collaborator and disability activist, Nico Meyering, has donated $25 towards this small fundraising campaign. Thank you, Nico! If you would like to support GameOn!, here's a direct link to our donation page. Thank you in advance for all of your support of our efforts to make role playing games inclusive and thank you to the Awesome Foundation for funding our project. A GameOn! teen volunteer has agreed to Dungeon Master an online campaign of D&D 5e. (Thanks, Amaya!) If you might be interested in joining the campaign or signing up a child as a parent/guardian, please complete the Google Form here or copy and paste the link into your browser: https://forms.gle/skG7ewDMqo2Gmu4d8
The game is for teens only - so 10 years of age or older. The online game will utilize Discord for voice, text, and perhaps video. To help folks prepare for such games, GameOn! has prepared some guidance and best practices, which is available here. We hope to start the game in early June. Details as to what day and time have yet to be sorted out but we've included a few options in the Google Form. Thanks and GameOn! Youth D&D at 21 Pips in Ardmore, PA, Sunday 12-3pm, Starting 4 June 2023
I love serendipity! GameOn! Founder David Perlman organized a birthday party as a last minute favor to 21 Pips owner Matt Hendricks. As a result, GameOn! has been tapped to help manage a youth D&D program at 21 Pips. As part of this partnership, GameOn! is seeking Dungeon Masters (DMs) with experience running D&D 5e with kids. Currently, 21 Pips is offering $35 in cash and $15 in food/beverage credit for each DM for each session they run. To express interest in DMing, please complete the Google Form for this program here. 21 Pips and GameOn! are planning to host the first session on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 12pm. Tickets for the event are now live on Tock here. Parents: have a delicious brunch at 21 Pips and play some games of your own, while your kids enjoy a professionally hosted D&D experience in the loft area of 21 Pips. TThat's right! GameOn! Founder David Perlman has been selected as a LEND Fellow at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The LEND fellowship is about leadership education in neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDDs).
Starting in July of 2023, David will be learning from parents of kids with NDDs, attending clinics with clinicians in this area, and conducting research. Now his research project to test D&D for adolescents with NDDs might finally have a home. Thanks goes to his research mentors while he was a professor and student at University of the Sciences, Ashley de Marchena and Amy Janke, for their kind letters of support. Details about the LEND Fellowship are here. GameOn! is pleased to announce the availability of D&D special events (like birthday parties!) at partner organization, Riverbend Environment Educational Center.
My daughter goes to their summer camp and recently had a friend's birthday party there. The staff member that day happened to be their education director. I showed up early and mentioned "how cool would it be to play D&D here" to my daughter. And now it's a reality! Here's the link to book your event (scroll down to the D&D party option). GameOn! recently attended the DelcoN game sale/swap and was intrigued with the idea. As many know, selling new and used games is one of the revenue streams for GameOn! So why not? We decided to give it a go! Here are the details:
Attend and Sell/Swap Your Games and Support GameOn! To express interest in participating to sell/swap your own games, please complete the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/Pc9itz3HxnXJuuha7 When? Sunday April 30, 9AM to 4PM Where? Philadelphia Flea Market 270 W Swedesford Road, Berwyn, PA 19132 How Much Space Is There? This first sale/swap is a bit of a test so I’ve decided to purchase one 20’x8’ stall under the shaded canopy (in case of rain or sun). Given that, there are spaces for: 3 full-table vendors 2 half-table vendors (already sold out, sorry) Given the tightness of the space, reserving your table will be first-come, first-served (see below) How Much? $15 donation for one table for the sale/swap (the first 3 donations to clear our online system will get these spots and I will email you confirmation of your participation) $5 donation for half a table (the first 2 donations to clear the online system will get these spots and I will email you confirmation of your participation). What Will You Provide? Due to the logistics involved (GameOn! Will be the vendor and handle set up/tear down), GameOn! Will provide the following: 1 6’x3’ table (or something close to those measurements) 1 padded folding chair If you are interested in only having a few games for sale/swap, GameOn! Will provide space at one of the tables in the stall but no chair can be provided due to lack of room (sorry). All attendees will be responsible for handling all aspects of their sale/swap and must be present for customers (meaning I can’t watch your table and facilitate sales/swaps as I will be doing the same at my table). Best practice is to bring cash and lots of small bills to make change but that's up to you. What If I Need to Cancel? Unfortunately, once you make your donation, it will be very difficult to process refunds, so please only commit to the donation and attendance at the game sale/swap if you can make it. I’m Not Interested But Would Like to Donate Games for the Sale Please email [email protected] so we can arrange pickup. How Do I Reserve My Spot? Make a donation, either for $15 or $5 (depending on how much space you want) at the following link: https://www.flipcause.com/secure/donate/MTY3Njg3 The first 3 at $15 and 2 at $5 get the spaces (the $5 spaces are sold out, sorry)! HawXpo (pronounced Hawks-Po) Pop Culture and Gaming Convention for Neurodiverse Kids
GameOn! will participate in a pop culture and gaming convention at Hill Top Preparatory School on Saturday April 29, 2023 from 9AM to 4PM. Here are details: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hawxpo-tickets-519019550447. HawXpo is a new convention and is a play on the mascot for the School, the Hawks. Hawks-Po - get it? GameOn! is particularly excited to be participating because our workshops, demos, and vending will meet one of our core missions - to bring the joy and prosocial benefits of RPGs to kids and adults who are neurodiverse. As stated on the event page HawXpo is “designed to foster social skills for neurodiverse youth, adolescents, and young adults through a gaming, arts & pop-culture convention.” GameOn! Founder David Perlman, PhD, MS will be conducting a workshop on how to bring RPGs like D&D to neurodiverse kids for interested parents, then a demo for interested kids. According to the event page, the workshop should be open and free for parents, but kids interested in the demo will need to purchase a wristband for the event. These activities at HawXpo will dovetail nicely with the panel David has organized for TAGGS 2023 on accommodations at the gaming table, which is scheduled for the weekend before HawXpo. Also at the event, GameOn! will be publicizing its summer camps, afterschool programs, and other services for this unique population. And since the event is open to the public (for parents), folks might also want to come buy some of the games available for purchase to support the charity. Hat Tip: Special thanks goes to GameOn! volunteer Seth Payne, who will help at the vendor booth. Yes, finally! GameOn! has a home on the Internet.
